Domainfest: How do Investors Feel About New TLDs?

With ICANN looking to launch the New gTLD application process this year, it has been very interesting to find out how domain name investors feel about New Top-Level Domains.

As to be expected, there really isn't much discussion on the inevitable introduction of New gTLDs at Domainfest 2011. However, AusRegistry International, a very vocal proponent of New gTLDs is here at Domainfest and is taking a clever approach to see who supports New gTLDs.

Be sure to attend the panel discussion starting at 4:30 pm today on Opportunities in ccTLDs, IDNs, and New gTLDs. And, If you've got a vote, badge-up!

Is Mike Berkens of WorldWide Media, Inc. Betting on New gTLDs?

Michael H. Berkens, president of Worldwide Media, Inc. and Editor-in-Chief of The Domains.com has recently announced a gTLD Consulting Service to assist registries with marketing and selling premium domain names as well as other issues surrounding the launch of New gTLDs.

The following is an excerpt from a blog post written by successful Internet entrepreneur and domain industry veteran, Elliot J. Silver.   Head over to elliotsblog.com for the full story.

WWMI

Generally  the new gTLD consulting will be a big story next year as hundreds of millions maybe billions of dollar will pour into the domain channel to obtain, market and sell domains ending in hundreds of different extensions,” said Berkens. “Up to now domains have all been about left of the dot, that is all the keywords that precede the extension. After the new gTLD process is approved there will be huge money pouring into developing out extensions, brands and concepts all to the right of the dot. The truly exciting part is much of this activity will come from those that haven’t invested heavily into the domain channel before.  This will credit a lot of new interest in the domain industry in general.”
